Aren't there a couple of CB channels which are allocated for remote
control of models? They permit some odd modulation schemes... if not
CW, perhaps FSK.

First off, if the idea is to teach ham radio boot-camp we probably
don't want to start by violating regs, you know?
However, I can think of two ways around it:
1. Teach it by saying (or using a voice synthesizer to say)
'dah di dah di dah dah di dah'
2. Transmit the code on ten meters, and do the coaching
'that was an A' and discussion on CB (with the advantage
of duplex operation. If you use MCW, then ANY cheap
receiver ought to work.

It is a full-function phone patch; the term "controller" is something of a
misnomer; it doesn't "control" anything but itself. It links your
transceiver transmit and receive audio to the phone line, and provides
level setting on both. There are no DTMF functions, and it does not dial
the phone for you (I know of no phone patches that will perform these
functions; you may be confusing patches with modems, which typically do
dial, auto-answer, etc.). In a typical installation, you would have the
patch and a regular phone connected to the same line. You would dial using
the phone, then switch over to the patch when you've reached the party on
the phone and told them what's going on. They could then hold a
conversation with the party on the radio, with you switching manually
between transmit and receive for them. Since you didn't list a callsign,
I'll also point out that there are restrictions on when and where you can
make patches between the US and foreign countries. Only a few have "third
party" agreements with the US permitting patches.

Both are on sale at Electronic Parts Outlet in Webster, Tx. which
is a suburb of Houston and about 5 minutes from the Johnson Space
Center.

I was having similar problems. The keps I was getting had the names
of some of the satellites padded with blanks, which was confusing the
program. Take a look at your elements and see if you are having the
same problem...

I thought the accepted Q-signal was QLF. 8^)
QLF? "Are you sending with your left foot?"
QLF "I am sending with my left foot."
Many years ago, a New Jersey Net picnic had an ENORMOUS straight key
set up for us to attempt to send with our left feet. It was a riot!
